Richard Marx- Hold On To The Nights

Standard

I prefer his music from the 80’s and early 90’s but my favorite song will Always be Hold On to the Nights from 1988.  The lyrics are hauntingly beautiful, simple, concise and very Real.  I don’t think the song necessarily signifies two people married per say. It could also mean two people that are in love with each other but don’t know how to deal with those feelings and chemistry perhaps because of their youth or because life itself is pushing them in separate directions and deep down they want to be together and perhaps the choices they have to make is a limitation to that yearning of wanting to be with each other.

Lyrics:

Just when I believed I couldn’t ever want for more

This ever changing world pushes me through another door
I saw you smile
And my mind could not erase the beauty of your face
Just for awhile
Won’t you let me shelter youHold on to the nights
Hold on to the memories
I wish that I could give you something more
That I could be yours
How do we explain something that took us by surprise
Promises in vain, love that is real but in disguise
What happens now
Do we break another rule
Let our lovers play the fool
I don’t know how
To stop feeling this way
Hold on to the nights
Hold on to the memories
I wish that I could give you something more
That I could be yours
Well, I think that I’ve been true to everybody else but me
And the way I feel about you makes my heart long to be free
Every time I look into your eyes, I’m helplessly aware
That the someone I’ve been searching for is right there
Hold on to the nights
Hold on to the memories
I wish that I could give you more
Hold on to the nights.

80’s Music

Standard

It took me a long time to come up with my top 20 80’s song list since there are so many songs and artists  I love from that decade. In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel would have been my no. 1 choice but unfortunately Spotify doesn’t have the original song.  I experience the 80’s as a child but a lot of  the music (after the 70’s and 60’s) I love also comes from this influential decade. Speaking of the 80’s I am  NOT liking very much the CNN miniseries. They are concentrating too much on making Reagan look like a saint, and I was thoroughly disappointed and angry to learn they have decided not to air the episode based on the AIDS Crisis because they deemed it too controversial and depressing.  I don’t know how true this is but if it is it sounds like Horse shit to me.  I hope they reconsider because no matter how ugly and controversial the AIDS crisis was it was a BIG part of that decade.

More 80’s Sitcoms

Among other favorites are; Growing Pains, Murphy Brown, Perfect Strangers, Who’s the Boss, The Facts of Life, Kate & Allie, Empty Nest, Punky Brewster and  and Full House.
