Motorcycle Diaries/Diarios de Motocicleta

This film portrays the life of a 23 year old Ernesto Guevara de La Serna looking for adventures and inspiration. He was a young man at this point, far from becoming the infamous warrior the world came to know as Che Guevara. I love this film, in fact it is one of my favorites. I am appalled to learn about his actions in Cuba and his decision to stop practising medicine. I admire his desire for a more just world but I despise what he became. Nonetheless, the point of this film is to depict his journey through South America, not how he became Che Guevara in the end.

Gente Plástica/Superficial People

Superficial people abound everywhere and nowadays thanks to social media like facebook and instagram ( countless others) people have made an art form of it.  Nothing wrong with a little shallowness and silliness from time to time but must we be surrounded it by it 24/7?! I don’t know what’s worst superficial people who are genuinely shallow or superficial people who are snobs and think they are a cut above others.  Where  have all the normal and humble people gone?!

Medicine Today

What kind of Medicine are they teaching medical students today?! When did Medicine which is suppose to be the most humanly of all professions turn into a business?!    It seems to me Medical students are more preoccupied with grades and passing the USMLE rather than training to become high quality physicians.  I know there are still doctors out there who are Brilliant and Competent at what  they do but they seem to be far and few in between nowadays.  Has the joy truly been sucked out of Medicine ?? Many doctors today consider the medical profession unsatisfying and are reported to be unhappy at what they do. It’s rather  depressing to know this and even more depressing that I have friends who are  doctors and feel the exact same way.

Robert Frost – Reluctance

Out through the fields and the woods
   And over the walls I have wended;
I have climbed the hills of view
   And looked at the world, and descended;
I have come by the highway home,
   And lo, it is ended.
The leaves are all dead on the ground,
   Save those that the oak is keeping
To ravel them one by one
   And let them go scraping and creeping
Out over the crusted snow,
   When others are sleeping.
And the dead leaves lie huddled and still,
   No longer blown hither and thither;
The last lone aster is gone;
   The flowers of the witch hazel wither;
The heart is still aching to seek,
   But the feet question ‘Whither?’
Ah, when to the heart of man
   Was it ever less than a treason
To go with the drift of things,
   To yield with a grace to reason,
And bow and accept the end
   Of a love or a season?

80’s Music

It took me a long time to come up with my top 20 80’s song list since there are so many songs and artists  I love from that decade. In Your Eyes by Peter Gabriel would have been my no. 1 choice but unfortunately Spotify doesn’t have the original song.  I experience the 80’s as a child but a lot of  the music (after the 70’s and 60’s) I love also comes from this influential decade. Speaking of the 80’s I am  NOT liking very much the CNN miniseries. They are concentrating too much on making Reagan look like a saint, and I was thoroughly disappointed and angry to learn they have decided not to air the episode based on the AIDS Crisis because they deemed it too controversial and depressing.  I don’t know how true this is but if it is it sounds like Horse shit to me.  I hope they reconsider because no matter how ugly and controversial the AIDS crisis was it was a BIG part of that decade.
